Q. |
Is there a big difference between fresh versus frozen meats,
poultry and seafood?
|
|
A. |
No, actually most customers are surprised how much better our cuts
of meat, poultry and seafood are than their local supermarket or warehouse
club. The reasons for this are due to how we process your order. To begin with,
Hill's only uses USDA grade Prime and Choice meats that are grain-fed,
naturally aged and that are beautifully marbled with a richly flavored buttery
tenderness. All Poultry is Grade A which means that the poultry is plump,
tender and moist to complement a rich golden color. When it comes to
seafood, imagine ocean fresh fish fillets that are delicate and flaky and
seafood steaks that are full flavored and savory. Once your products have been
cut to your specifications they are individually vacuum-sealed and labeled for
easy identification in a heavy duty clear cryovac wrap and flash frozen at the
peak of freshness and flavor. This not only safely seals your products in an
airtight wrap but it also locks in the juices preserving freshness and flavor
enabling you to freeze products longer than store wrapped products. |

Q. |
How do I properly defrost my
meats, poultry and seafood? |
|
A. |
It's easy! Just place your cryovac wrapped
package in a dish on a shelf in your refrigerator. The rule of thumb is 24
hours per 4 pounds depending how dense an item is (for example; a roast has
more density than a chicken breast and therefore will take longer to defrost).
Or, we recommend placing your cryovac package in cold water for 30 minutes per
pound. This may seem odd but in fact is terrific at accelerating the defrosting
process. Remember...COLD WATER not HOT! Lastly, many of our
foods can go directly from the freezer to your oven, broiler or grill which is ideal
for those families on the go and in need of a quick nutritious meal. |
