The meat business is a family tradition for fourth generation Peter Hill, great grandson of Joseph and Mary Hill, who emigrated from Russia in February 1898. Joseph was a butcher by trade and with the help of his wife and their ten children, raised livestock on their family farm in Sherborn, Massachusetts and peddled their quality meats door to door by pushcart.

customers and with the help of their two sons, Marvin and Lennard, the butcher shop prospered and became the sixth butcher shop bearing the Hill family name in communities that surrounded the family farm.
It was in 1952, after 28 years of hard work and determination, that the Hill's moved their butcher shop to larger quarters at 4 Freedom Street in order to continue to support their growing customer base with the tradition of quality and service that had become Hill's trademark in the community.
In the years ahead, under the leadership of Marvin and Lennard, Hill's continued to become a household name to thousands of New Englanders due to the advent of the home freezer. The local butcher shop became better known as Hill Food Service and the slogan "Meat Makes the Difference" enabled many families throughout the region to enjoy butcher shop quality, as Hill's became New England's largest supplier of home delivered meats.

Today, the business continues to follow its traditional roots putting the customer first and offering fine quality meats that are custom cut to each customer's specifications. Our neighborhood butcher shop at 4 Freedom Street still has the personal touch and flavor of years gone by with an inviting environment. All of our meats are graded Prime and Choice, corn and grain-fed, naturally aged, beautifully marbled, perfectly trimmed and are richly flavored with a buttery tenderness.
